Northwestern University runs one of the top gifted talent search programs in the United States. CTD also provides support services to families of gifted children.

Northwestern University simultaneously hosts parenting seminars for families of gifted children enrolled in the CTD Winter Saturday Enrichment Program (SEP). CTD has been offering family conferences since 1996, fulfilling its mission of gifted support and advocacy. Northwestern added these well-received parent seminars in 2006.

This winter’s gifted Saturday enrichment session runs weekly from Jan 10th to February 28th, 2009. All three Illinois SEP locations hold parenting courses while gifted kids attend enrichment classes. CTD no longer offers SEP gifted services in Glen Ellyn since relocating to Naperville in 2007.

CTD Gifted Program Parenting Series Lecture Topics

Gifted parenting series on all three campuses include a new parent orientation and in-depth presentation of Northwestern CTD’s summer gifted and Gifted Learning Links programs.

Northwestern’s Evanston location will additionally examine:

  • Twice-exceptional (2e) gifted kids
  • Gifted Parenting 101
  • Gifted evaluation processes

  • IQ tests

The CTD Gurnee campus will explore:

All programs culminate with a Student Exposition highlighting the gifted children’s work from their six to eight week Saturday enrichment courses.

CTD Parent Program Format and Gifted Education Lecture Locations

Parenting seminars are approximately ninety minutes long with the last half hour reserved for answering parent questions about raising gifted children. All lectures begin at 9:30 AM, allowing parents time to escort their children to SEP courses. Evanston also offers afternoon sessions. Parents, legal guardians, and guests are welcome to attend. Coffee and other beverages are welcome in the lecture halls.

Northwestern CTD parenting seminars take place in the following lecture rooms:

  • Evanston Technology Institute lecture room 4 (LR 4)
  • Naperville Goldspohn Building room 20
  • Gurnee Woodland Intermediate West first floor cafeteria
